Subject: RE: Feed cost

Lacombe, Alberta
I also think it's competition and maybe a bit on transport. A couple years ago we thought pricing here was stupid so we went to my dad's feed mill in BC and ordered two super b's of complete feed and had it here cheaper than local mill. It wasn't as handy because we had to auger into bin and it ended up hanging up in truck at -30C but we made our point. Local mill also delivers when we want versus trying to line up trucking and couldn't make feed changes as easily because we had 42t of feed coming at once. For transport trains bring a bunch of feed to BC which is probably cheaper than trucking and here it's further between farms and mill versus Fraser Valley so trucks get less done in a day. Maybe BC mills are better at contracting because they buy so much versus Alberta farmers try to supply a portion of their own grain. Overall we thought Alberta should be cheaper since grain grows here and not the Fraser Valley but we were wrong.
