Subject: Grass tetany risk for mama cows grazing wheat?

Columbia City, Indiana
Had the idea last fall from reading about “wheat pasture” out west to seed a 15 acre field that’s surrounded by pasture to wheat for late April, early May grazing of mama cows, who will be calving during this time. But now I’m concerned about grass tetany and think it might not be worth the risk. If I had it to do over I would use cereal rye I guess.

Already looked into getting a hi mag mineral to start them on now, well ahead of turnout.

Has anybody done this with success or is it a major no no? I would also offer dry hay in a bale ring but I doubt they’ed eat much if they had that green wheat available.

Thoughts?
