I had a 3 ft. dia. 45 foot deep well dug in bottom ground that went through several layers of silted dirt and sand. At approximately 30 ft. down the bucket brought up portions of tree limbs that were perfectly preserved. Once they dried out they looked like driftwood one would find along a creek bank. My son took them to school and his science teacher said the last glacier was 14,000 or 16,000 years ago; lack of oxygen preserved the wood.
