Subject: Calf with puffy ears.

Texas
So my frozen calf I have named ICY. She is 2.5 days old now and is doing well. I figured I better tag her while I can still catch her. Anyways I noticed her ears are kinda puffy today. It was hard to find the veins to miss them tagging.
Is this some sort of frostbite symptom? She had been born at most 4 hours and I found her covered in ice stuck to the ground. I believe mama cleaned her and she sucked and then staggered under a Hotwire fence. Then we had a wet snow for 2 hours at 10 degrees.

Anyways we took her inside and cranked the bullet heater and blow dried her. I tubed her a bottle of colostrum and gave her back to mom. Her mouth was ice cold inside when we brought her in and fairly cool still when we turned her out. She is lively now and I could barely hold her to tag today since it was taking me a while with the puzzling ear.

First pic is when we found her. Second is yesterday morning. I wanted to get a pic of the ear today but mama was not real impressed with me messing with her calf anymore. I think she is offended I took it away for a while. Ears looks normal until you touch them.
