North Central Iowa | A good piece of information to share is your potential budget. On a budget for steering, an older used system is probably a good place to look if comfortable reading the manuals and wiring diagrams and doing yourself. Probably a few dealers that work with used systems as well.
If going the used route, no matter the brand or model, I’d encourage to spend the extra $ to find a model unlocked already to RTK. For Trimble, a 500 or 750 at lower end of price range of used Trimble products.
Nothing particularly wrong with an ez-steer, other options are less cumbersome in the cab and can hold a closer line. But a well configured ez-steer should keep on the line within an 1”, maybe 2” occasionally, of where the gps thinks the tractor is supposed to be. Still way better than steering by hand!
In the Trimble world, an ez guide 500 unlocked to Rtk is going to be hard to beat for price for ability to run a very accurate and repeatable line. It’s been discontinued for quite awhile. | |
