Hmmm, one year and done and he wants you to plant beans, huh? If it were me and I wasn't paying much for rent, I'd skip any fertilizer, drill those beans, keep them clean, get what you can in the fall and walk away happy. You're done there pretty much any way you look at it, doubt you'll get much of any fertilizer $ back out of it in one season, so I wouldn't agonize over some non existent stewardship issue.
