western iowa,by Denison | a few photos and some of the same day I drilled rye where we did not disc after seeding
My friends landlord said he wanted only fall applied nh3 as he thinks spring applied will compact the ground
picture 234&5 is landlords field-other pictures are my fields-have 300 or so acres in-the last 60 acres are not up yet-really surprised how dry it is and the rye is up on 240 cares with 60 left to emerge
my friends field has around 20% coming thru the disc and then nh3 knifed in-he used a 36 inch spacing on the nh3 applicator-noticed seedling burn or just dead at the knife from being ripped out-
last year I seeded 400 acres -this year with it being dry I went to 300 acres-I guess almost 1/2 the ground I farm will be cover crop
I'm not seeing any financial gain but I will keep experimenting!
Hoping for better pictures as it grows-I have several different rotations that I put the rye on-we have less manure this year as we are going to longer term stock piling-we have a 40 acre field of standing corn stalks that is extremely thick that I no tilled rye in-that should be interesting-plan is to no till soybeans into it next spring after killing the rye
