South Central MN | I think long term the covers will pay off better, especially if they are holding dirt in place vs. it blowing or washing. Lots of clay hilltops here where all the topsoil ended up in the low ground, pretty common for the crop to be 10-50% less yield than the rest of the field on a hilltop. (Depends on the year and crop, of course.)
Anyone down in those areas cut and bale the rye in the spring for critter feed? Some do here if the rye got in after silage but not many, got some here but just a few acres. Can get beans in after although you lose the rye effect on weeds. | |
