palennn - 10/18/2020 22:45 So you're saying that you do the entire field in any direction you choose? All we see around here are 30" rows.

No

I open up the field cutting across rows wherever I need to such as in the corners.    Get to the corner, back up 90-100' and angle over a bit to cut another pass into the corner to give yourself room to turn around.    Once I get 90' of ends off I go with the rows as that is pretty much the most efficient way to harvest the field as 80% or more of our ground is planted to straight rows that go the long way across the field.

But if one did want to harvest at an angle for some reason, a 30-45° angle to the rows with auto steer wouldn't lose much corn if you kept the speed down and the stalks weren't brittle.    In 20" rows there is more room between plants in the row and you have row units on the head closer together so you don't have to bend the stalks as far to get them in the head.
