When 2 way mike is keyed - test the load pulled - and see what voltage is still available. You will learn what's going on - There is a reason 2 ways can transmit 10-15 miles.
Wiring is your friend - Heavy wire -- 12 ga for 2 ways is best.
I have a situation where if the voltage goes below what the 2 way is happy with (not even keying the mic) the 2 way emits a scream. No fun
