Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I don't want to start a war about down force. My older 1770 CCS has the manual spring system for down force. I thought that I should monitor the down force on 6 of our 24 rows as an aid for setting the springs. I did not want to spend the money to do it "right" with hydraulics. I was able to purchase a used Ag Leader ISO module and wiring that connects to 6 "weigh bars".
What I've decided is that my down force may be excessive already. This planter has Yetter trash whippers and our tillage practices are very conventional. The trash whippers do add a fair amount of weight and down force I would suspect. I question the readings that I'm getting from the down force module as they seem excessive. Maybe they are correct. Maybe what I need is Up force rather than Down force. Many folks with down force seem to be in no-till situations.
Basically my down force monitoring system is just along for the ride and I haven't paid any attention to it after becoming frustrated after the first year. A $5000 experiment that has helped me.
