Central Alberta | Our farm is in a fertile area with good rainfall and good crops, but growing up farming, this life was never easy. But I never knew how good we had it until I saw the farms a few hundred miles north of here in areas with a short growing season and poor soil, pure sand in some cases. There are beautiful farms there today, in an area that was settled by refugees from Stalin's purges in the Ukraine in the 1930s. They were given a change to homestead land that no one else wanted and they made a success out of it. Very inspiring. | |
