North Central Kansas | I run Kenwood radios and have had good luck with them. When I was on the fire district we installed a kenwood vhf repeater. We could reach 40+ miles. We also had a uhf/vhf repeater. It would receive a page from the two counties that joined us that were on vhf and rebroadcast it out on our vhf repeater. Do you have a good radio person?
Our repeater was on the cable tv antenna. Never had too many issues with lightning.
