Yeah. Never let go of the handle while any body part is within reach.

And lube the mechanism with some Diesel before even attempting to use. Anything heavier or like WD40 will work also but will collect dust and gum up the mechanism for the next use. Diesel is the best.

They do make mechanism kits to replace those pins without throwing the jack away. Kind of hard to find them though.

I've always gotten along well with them. But I respect their limitations and dangers. The guys that work for me hate them.
