Well, I think if you put it in 3/4" deep it'll take a decent amount of rain to germ it, being that we're getting into cooler weather. I understand the concern though. I spun some annual ryegrass onto corn at last cultivation this June. Got 1/2" on top of powder dry dirt and then hot and dry another week. That's toast. What I spun on a week later on later that laid on dry dirt almost 2 weeks before getting a 2" rain is still hanging in there.

Here we were getting pretty dry. Now it rained 5" this week. That's usually how the drought breaks.
