The bus needs to be terminated at both ends, and lines coming off of it to go to nodes need to be as short as possible (I believe the lines coming off the bus to the nodes are called stubs, and there is a max length specification that varies with bus speed). You can extend the bus by removing a terminator, connecting there, and adding a terminator at the end of whatever you have added.
