Here they would likely die,spring only planting but you could lay them down in the shade and lightly mulch til spring rodents an issue then,cheap enough warm enough area,try it but with little root supplying moisture etc desiccation might happen over winter.good luck.Freezing is not the problem its the amount of cycles as winter swings up and down.I think big guys put them in the freezer or close to frozen.
