Subject: RE: Pencil shrink/shipping yearlings question

Valley, NE
for all our Imperial Purchases we have this shrink schedule:

0% weighed at Delivery
1% Weighed on truck over 30 miles away from pick up location
2% weighed on truck under 30 miles away from pickup location (a majority of cattle are weighed this way)
3% weighed on ground at ranch prior to loading
1% weighed on ground with no transport

I have had cattle from Florida to Nebraska shrink 9-15%, and i have had cattle go three miles down the road and shrink 5%, My bet is your cattle previously were shrinking at least 6% on the previous years method. The producers who have certified platforms at their load out on farm will almost always have heavier payweights than the others, even with a 3% pencil shrink.
