Well if your trying to send GPS to a display of some kind it's going to vary between the brand... If your referring to a NEMA message going to a phone or computer running a software package such as the Internet Radio or Intime ect., you will need the GGA message.
I am talking about the NMEA message the 500 sends back to the base. Pretty sure it is NMEA.
