IMHO, J5 is too short You need at least a seven, I would prefer a YJ, prior to 89 so it still has leaf springs, look really hard for a rust free one. Or figure on putting a new frame under it.. I picked up a rust free of Arizona with what they thought was a bad motor for $4,000. howell fuel injection and a good valve job and she runs like a charm. IMHO buy for the frame and body assume the drivetrain is shot. LotsĀ  of good aftermarket build kits available. It's like a cult!

Jeeps ARE like a cult. You get 4 corner leaf springs at least to 1995, I had a 95 Wrangler that had leaf spring front end. I think they went to coils in 98-it's easy to tell. rectangular headlight Wranglers have leaf springs, when they went to coils they also went to round headlights.

I now have a "hybrid", it's a 1985 frame and axles with a 1991 dash/electrical/engine so mine is fuel injection. CJ7 and Wrangler body tubs are the same except for the location of the fuel filler. It's a lot of fun for running around but it's too nice to use for feeding cows. I'm retired now anyway, so I don't have to worry about it.
