Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I did not have the problems that you indicate with my install. My situation was different in that I have a Deere Vacuum planter rather than a finger pickup. I converted my 1760 (older) from the original chain drive to the Prodrives a few years ago.

I believe the instructions are geared toward the Vac units rather than the finger pickup units.

The large hole that needs to be drilled with the hole saw is in a different location between the two styles. I just used the supplied template and center punched each row. I then drilled a small pilot hole in each side fender. I used a hole saw in a battery powered drill. By using the pilot hole, I had no problems with the drill walking around on me.

My installation went fine but I thought that the units should have a bit more "float" when I reattached them.

I did not have any clearance issues such as you indicate - again I suspect this is due to the differences between the Vac and finger pickup units.
