. | NW Wisconsin about 60 miles from Mpls-St. Paul. There are several different settlements of Amish; ones in Barron County/Chetek area are heavily into milling lumber and have built a large business building small cabins for the tourism industry. More recently some have moved into eastern St. Croix County. Rather poor farming ground, very heavy, wet and rocky soil. Some of the have sawmills, more chickens and milking goats, greenhouses among this group. While many have dairy, they have sideline businesses as well to earn a living. | |
