NW Kansas | I have a few different scenarios where I could use one but not many total acres. On our irrigated ground I've been drilling the soybeans. No till with an 1890. Stands have been ok but could be better. I also like to smooth out the rough spots and tracks a little. We normally do 4-5 years of strip-till corn then beans. This spring I rented a great plains VT and ran it before the drill. 200-300 acres per year for this. The other way I'd use it is in our dryland summer fallow period. Usually 2-3 corn crops then fallow and back to wheat. We've been all no till for 20 years but it's getting tough to control kochia and especially Palmer in the fallow. Sometimes it just needs smoothed up from a wet spring, fall, or rabbit & badger holes. I'm going to sweep about 1/2 my fallow this year and would like to run something over after that just to level the ground. 4-5 hundred acres. | |
