central mich

I rent out all my pivot ground which is pretty sandy but great for potatoes. The pivots are running full time right now.

With the water the corn will produce about 240 bu/A. every year. And with the heat wave that we will have for 10 days or so the sand really dries out. I have some loamey sand or loam and if it does not get water it gets hard.

My newest well is the best ever drilled in this county and is 300 ft deep and capable of around 1800 GPM. Right now we get 900 GPM with a 75 HP pump.
With chip potatoes you have to have water. And even with rotation, with corn, beans, etc irrigation still pays big time almost every year.
We have all electric drive pivots.
I farm my dry ground and grow all soys every year. And right now they could use an inch.
