Subject: RE: Mastitis Treatment Protocol

Linneus Mo.
We always culture cows. Then I use Today. according to label. I also give a shot of Pennecilin with first dose of Today. GOtta withhold milk anyway so that seems to help and doesn't add to the withdrawal. Staph aureus cows get identified and are milked separate or all milkers are rinsed out after she is milked. DOn't want it spreading. Then those cows are culled when the market is good or I need the money or she is not giving enough to make her stay in the herd. If they are bred I keep them till they calve and then sell them. I don't want to keep one for a whole lactation.
The only other mastitis treatment I use is Poly flex as a second treatment to Today if it doesn't work. PolyFlex is more money here and must be purchased through a vet. I can still get Today at my farm store.
