Nebraska aka the boondocks | I read this article this morning, which I thought was interesting, and may go with your hunch. The system that “blew” across the plains, was a derecho, a very big one, the last two big derecho years were 2002 and 2012. Interesting anyways. Worst wind-over a period of days I can remember.
