Subject: Polio. Listeria

Have a pen of 9 weight cattle. Been in the yard since the middle of March. Last Thursday had two down when I feed at six am. Everyone was fine the night before at 11. Vet thinks polio or listeria but didn’t give good odds of survival so we put them down. Today. Son calls at two. Steer tossing it’s head and having trouble getting up. Vet comes out and gives thiamine steroids and penicillin. Got him up and separated after an hour and a bit. Left him standing but shakey will check on him again in an hour. Had feed guy out after the first two. Can’t figure out what’s wrong. Feeding silage straw corn and wet distillers feeds in good condition. Cattle all look great till one doesn’t. Steer looks full and healthy... feeds in good shape. The three that went down came out of the same load. There’s 255 in the yard. Any ideas what to check?
