Subject: RTK Connect and solutions for network RTK

Adams, MN
We have been working with network RTK on the Minnesota DOT VRS network now going on our fourth season. We have taken an active role in utilizing network RTK for agricultural GPS applications in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Ohio. What we have seen in performance of network RTK (ie CORS using VRS or MAX/IMax) gives growers the accuracy, reliabilty, repeatability, and affordability that a single RTK base station, with radio transmission, struggles to deliver.

We came to see the need for repeatability with our agronomic background. One of the main things we see is placing fertilizer in a sub surface band and planting over the top (or maybe 2 inches to the side) of that band. This maybe done with strip-till, but many growers will still do a pass with the field cultivator and plant in the spot they feel is best for their operation.

Our line-up of solutions to connect to network RTK we collectively refer to as RTK Connect. Here is what we offer and a brief discription of each. When you walk into an electronics store, you don't see a wall full of one TV. You see a wall full of different tv's by brands, size, features and other qualities. We like to taylor a program for each grower, depending on what his needs may be, and place the system that works for him.

RTK Connect Mobile: This is a program designed to utilize a Windows Mobile CDMA cell phone. It optimizes the data packet stream, internet and bluetooth mangement . It has a simple start / stop /exit user interface that simplifies the entire process for many users. Devolopment has been focused on the widely accepted Alltel devices such as the HTC 6800, Touch, Touch Diamond and Touch Diamond Pro. It is also operating on other networks and devices. Device and data plans are available.

RTK Connect MOJO RTK: This is Leica Geo Systems product which offers a very good solution for John Deere Auto Trac ready and other tractors, to connect to network RTK. It provides an internal CDMA modem and software that allows for easy user interface in a self-contained RTK gps receiver and inertial navigation. Virtual Wrench allows easy remote access from service technicians. Data plans are available.

RTK Connect SE: This is a self contained GSM/GPRS modem and software that allows for easy user interface and connectivity to network RTK. This is very area specific in that GSM/GPRS cell service is very limited, especially in rural areas. Right now the only coverage is with AT&T and T-Mobile. Site testing is recommended to insure compatability and data streaming capabilities.

RTK Connect Bridge: This is a self contained CDMA modem and software that allows for easy user interface and connectivity to network RTK. This is less area specific than the GSM/GPRS version, but right now the only coverage is with Verizon. Site testing is recommended to insure compatability and data streaming capabilities. It also offers some features that we are working on to provide network RTK solutions for multiple units in an small geographic area.
