Tile and grade is probably one of the biggest things, helped if tile ran all winter as well. Going into last fall it was cold and wet, mid September I got 15” of rain and the cold continued on.

While the map is dated, it probably gives a glimpse into why some areas are still so wet. They lack drainage as they typically don’t need it, or at least as extensively....


I’m not speaking to you specifically SoDak but I always get a kick out of the “tile fixes everything” crowd. My area is crying for a rain more often than not and if these guys had to find an outlet like here it would be comical. Have a couple fields that would be awesome to tile.....except for the lift station and 3 miles of main to get to anywhere where you and an outlet. If you could go as the crow flies. If you had to run down a ditch or something it’d be even further. When your slope is zero it’s tough to find a place for any water to go.
