Beware the box may not contain a worm gear and mating gear as you would think. I know GM boxes in that era have a chain of ball bearings that run on the outside of the steering box input shaft. And the balls are internal on a rack tooth section. As the balls pass through between the two they are fed back to the opposite end of the worm by an external tube or track. Now in the case of the GM box the worm has stops that will not let the worm screw out of the rack tooth section, but I can’t speak for the Ford box. On the GM the only way that came apart was to take the external tube off and let the balls spill out. I have an old “Motor” brand truck repair manual at home I’ll try to look at it tonight and see what info it has in there.
