I grow oats, barley and rye. Oats and barley make nice straw when the weather cooperates and everything goes as planned. Year in year out rye provides the best straw when things are challenging.
Do you ever have any trouble baling rye straw into small squares? The guy that baled mine had a lot of trouble with it being too spongy and causing trouble with the tying mechanism.
