Here is link to Bob Costas interview with Bob Gibson and Tim McCarver. Some great stories they tell.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsgPmc-TvVE
Gibson did not have 20-20 vision and needed to wear glasses but did not wear them on the field and he really could not see clearly at all. At about 9:00 into the video he tells about his poor vision and then a funny story about being in San Francisco for games with the Giants. Teammate Bill White asks Gibson if he wants to go to Willie Mays with him. "Yeah, sure", he said as Willie was Gibson's idol. They get there and Willie comes to the door and greets White. Willie then sees Gibson and asks White who that is. White says that it is Gibson ( who was wearing his glasses at the time). Willie says, "Gibson? You wear glasses? Man, you're going to kill somebody out there!"

A man that attends church with us told this story about his father who played Major League baseball in the 1970's. He played with the San Francisco Giants , Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. If I remember correctly it went like this. His father once hit a home run off Gibson. Next at bat, Gibson hit him with a pitch. As he trotted down to first base he did not glance toward Gibson but he could feel Gibson staring at him so much that it felt like a burning sensation . He had respect for Gibson.
