WC Mn/Dakotas | If you have less than 100 bu, why do you need 25k? On the good zones 7 will be to conservative. Where do you make money? On the good zones. Where do you waste money? On the poor zones.
Does your combine yields magically jump by 20 bu increments or is it 1 by at a time? Why have these imaginary hard breaks? This should be interpolated by 100 seed increments.
Unless your on tile and under a pivot, I think anything above 32-34k is a waste on the best zones. If you have trouble zones, sure I would up the pops a little (like a few hundred, not a few 1000). These zones are more often than not not yielding no matter the pop. If these zones have the stars align then they will do 8-10+ bu/k. So if you have <100bu history and you plant 20k and you lose 50% you still have 10k. That could still yield 40-100+ bu. If its that bad of a year you might have to go in and replant even if you flat rated it. Your managing risk, not swinging for a grand slam.
