South Central Kansas

The southern plains had already been in the grips of the worst drought since the dust bowl for 18+ months on March 14, 2012. 2012 was horribly hot and dry but actually a small improvement over 2011.

We didn't even harvest our corn for grain in 2011, we did get some silage. Corn averaged about 55 bu in 2012. Best year ever for our wheat crop though. We started harvest on May 29, we had never cut wheat in May before. June 15 is an average starting date here for us.
