Subject: RE: Bred heifer question

Southern Indiana
I've only bought bred heifers once and won't do it again. You just don't know what you are getting. We usually calve 12 to 15 heifers a year and in the past 5 years only remember 2 that were a problem. One was a backwards calf that the vet and I worked on for 3 hours before we had to put her down and the other was a hard pull. Let her recover for about 6 mo before breeding and now she's one of our best cows I guess we are lucky on our genetics on pelvic sizes because I've had some smaller heifers slide out some not tiny calves with ease.
You are over the worst part now, and they should rebreed ok. If you are worried you could check their pelvic size at preg check like Carlson said. I definitely would not keep any replacements out of this set though. Good luck.
