30 yrs ago an older vet told me when I was so nuts over my German shorthairs that the best all round dog, companion/house etc etc.........and yet would function as a flushing bird dog....................get a lab.

I did........to companion a shorthair.

Now have another that is literally with me 24/7........

Most personable dog I have ever had.......which is also "of the nature" to be outside with us..........loves kids, wants to play them, and still has enough intensity to be a "man's dog".

That old vet knew what he was talking about.
