I like a Sheltie, (miniature collie)  but that is my preference.  They will stay home and with the herding instinct will stay with kids if they are around.  Anytime I wanted to know where the boys were all I had to do was watch where the dog came from.

Stay away from the hunting type dogs.  A lot of them like to run and will jsut bother the neighbors.  Our neighbor has a lab now that will come over at night and crap on things.  He will back his ass up and sh*$ on my tool box if I leave it sitting on the ground.
