Subject: Re: 5.9 Cummins oil leak in Dodge

Boone, Iowa
That year of truck could easily have a crank seal that is leaking. I have fixed numerous front crank seals on the 5.9 engines. Crawl under the truck and look around the front dampner. You will be able to tell if the oil has been leaking from there and the dampner slinging it out. Pull the radiator and fan shroud off, remove the belt and 4 bolts holding the dampner. Remove the front cover to replace the front crank seal. Do a search on the KDP (killer dowel pin). You can buy a kit that has the crank seal, silicone for the front cover and a tab to keep the pin from ever falling out. These are available from Geno's Garage or TST Products, to make 2 sources. Take a look at the water pump for leak at weep hole, while you are at this point. Two bolts and you can have water pump out. Keep us posted.
