Idaho | Most folks have bankout wagons with 4 wheel drive or rubber tracks. They are particulary useful because trucks can't get to some places in the fields. Most fill the rear tires full of water to prevent jack knifing when going down a hill with a load which is heavier than the tractor. Some put jake brakes on the tractors as they just have flat land brakes on them. Can't unload on the uphill side as the leveler tips the spout into the hill giving no clearance or a tube with a not so funny bend if you try it. The unloading is done on the down hillside with lots of Kentukey windage to hit the wagon. Windy day forget it. The steep hill with a full wagon are hard on spindles. Had one break and the tire rolled 1/4 mile. Thankfully not it the canyon. AND Gleaner rotarys without levelers handle the hills fine. Good power and balance with the accelerator rolls saves $50K on a leveler. | |
