Subject: Re: Standby Generator for the house

Macon, IL
I have had a battery backup sump pump for 5 years-so far so good. I test it every once in a while. Supposed to pump something like 2400 gallons before croaking. Wasn't cheap-$200 maybe-but cheaper than an automatic generator. Got it at Home Depot or Lowes. You are correct, has a marine battery and deep charger. But would run off regular car battery in a pinch.

We still have a portable generator-but I figure the battery operated will get my by for a day or two if I had to until we got home to start the portable.

Something else to think about-regular sump pumps are cheap-may want to put in two of them. One at normal level and 1 about 6 inches higher. I figure if you only have 1 and it goes out even if power is on you are screwed. I put the battery operated one just above regular-as it I think was designed to be a regular on on power as well as batter operated if power is out.
