I would find a different axle, otherwise you are going to be out time and parts. If the inside looks like that the outer bearings are junk. The pinion can come out and hole plugged but you need the diff in there to support the axle shafts, and the spider gears to hold the shafts in. The ring gear should stay on to move oil around too.
