East of Broken Bow | The differential isn't just dry, its dry, rusty, and has what looks like dirt in it. If you want to 'fix' it, best bet would be new axle and pumpkin bearings, and put it back together without the ring gear. Or, you might get by pulling the spider gears, and letting the axles ride in the pumpkin if it won't see a lot of miles.
I'm almost wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper and easier to just remove the axle, and replace it with one that has good bearings in it. As common as GM axles are, you should be able to get one for next to nothing, especially if you don't care if it has a bad ring or pinion gear. Just remove one of the other to use it. | |
