Two reasons in my case. I want more tonnage in the seeding year and don't keep alfalfa very long, so 10% less yield in years 2-6 doesn't add up to much. Second, I'm organic, so I'd rather a "weed" that dies after the first cutting, than what else inevitably comes up and keeps coming back.
