They imported corn in the last few weeks for the first time in years I think I read. But they raise A LOT of food, and farmers are pissed at the government because there is an overproduction and weak prices.
Yea the have the most arable land in the world but they rank really low on groundwater supplies. They are sucking their aquifers dry at an alarming pace growing highly subsidized rice and cotton. One bad monsooon season(it's supposed to be drier than normal this year) and they are in a real bind |
