Subject: RE: Trimble Autosteer on Deere 8420

I have seen the John Deere solenoid cause this problem from time to time on auto trac ready machines. It can be intermittent and usually gets worse the longer you use it. It’s pretty easy to replace the solenoid but a little pricey. I think they are about 900-1000. 4 Allen bolts hold the electro valve to orbital motor. I would re cal the dead zone once this is replaced.

It’s definitely not the flowmeter as this is not used on the trimble setup. The autosense is used instead. The only components you are tied into are the valve and steering encoder inside steering column.

I would personally try a different nav controller first if you have access to one to to eliminate a possible gyro issue. If this didn’t solve then I would replace valve solenoid.
