That’s fine, I don’t follow it much. Teaching kids to understand math as a concept beyond rote memorization is more than fine with me.

But I certainly don’t know the vocabulary of new math and that I find that confusing. I think that is the holdup for many. Grouping, estimating using the number line, etc.

I saw some of my retired elementary teachers a few weeks ago and asked them about new math and they just shook their heads and smiled and said they didn’t know the vocabulary either, and that the concepts seemed slightly different.
