Holland, Indiana (SW IN) | We are having a timber harvest on about 40 acres of woods --Mostly White Oak and some Hickory
FWIW some of the white oak had been stressed from weather and was maturing --looked like it was starting to going backwards in value
Looks like will get lucky and a high percentage of the White Oak will grade veneer and probably exported to Japan
Like to see the logs with the metal pieces --to keep from splitting --means the log will grade veneer and $
We are blessed to have a friend in the logging business Who knows the markets and can trust--cutting on %
Just a couple pics a Log 23" in diameter and 22' long a little less than 500 BF --land owner share $1500+
Had to add that log could easily bring --My share $2000
Had veneer logs that were much bigger BUT that is one nice log --for some reason the Japanese want a long log to veneer --years back only cared about 12' long
Rest equipment pics ---very little by hand using chainsaw any more
Dan
Add to the post -- if you look at the rings on the log --can see where we had a harvest and TSI (timber stand improvement) about 30 years back --really made the quality trees grow fast
Need to manage a woods like any other crop
That tree is probably less than 75 years old
