SC WI | #PLANT19 started today for us. We planted 4.5 acres last year on march 23rd in beautiful conditions, those beans made 77 bushel. Today we planted 3.5 acres of a 3.1, 2.9 and 2.4 maturity bean, These were planted into fall strips, took no till coulter off, raised the trash wheels and use full closing wheel down force. There was about 1 inch of frost on the strips, the biggest problem we had was the planter would not stay on top of the strips, the planter would slide from left to right, the really nice fall strips were the worst to stay on. Used about 300-350 lbs of downforce in the bags. I really liked about 2.25 acres of the 3.5 acres. Didnt notice any sidewall compaction when planting, beans were put in at 1.5, 2inch and then some at 2.5 inches. I have to thank Scott Rowntree with Pioneer for helping me this morning put the beans in. Also to Jung Seed Genetics and Pioneer for donating the seed. My confidence level is not as high as last year, these beans will need some rain and heat and maybe a rotary hoe to get out of the ground. It was alot of fun trying this, hopefully we can get some of these test out of the ground and possibly harvest-able.
