Tuscola, IL | Not to be the guy who tells you exactly the opposite what you just said you don’t want, but I picked up a used gas air compressor for $400 a few years ago and it has been one of my best purchases so far. Like you said, that’s an expensive experiment for the price.
80A also seems like a lot. You’ll definitely want to put a lot of thought into how it’s wired.
Not sure what you’re planning to do with the compressor, but these on amazon are cheaper and they offer a 100% duty cycle so could fill a bigger tank and only run 23A. Certainly won’t have the CFM though.
