Subject: Dairy Cow for Bottle Calves

South Central Iowa
Have 10 bottle calves due to extreme cold weather problems and open range wintering. Feeding them with milk replacer is about $20 a day, plus it is a nuisance. These are beef calves and I know nothing at all about dairy. Question:

Would a dairy cow let lots of calves nurse on her? I kind of imagine it like milking... maybe... you know just four of them on it at a time.

If so, could one handle 4 or 5? Or do they not make that much more milk than a beef cow? It’s like, 8 gallons a day right?

What can I get a used dairy cow for?

Would it save money in your opinion?

Is this a stupid idea? Probably? We hate feeding them...

This year is no bueno.
